Good Vibrations
ScotAsh won a VIBES Award in December after being voted Scotland's leading environmentally positive company in the medium size category.
The
Award is given annually under the Vision in Business for the Environment
of Scotland scheme to one company in each of the small, medium
and large business categories who, in the opinion of the judges,
have demonstrated the most positive impact on the environment.
The scheme is administered in Scotland by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).
ScotAsh received the award for recycling and reengineering nearly 500,000 tonnes of Pulverised Fuel Ash (PFA) from ScottishPower's coal-fired power stations into high quality products for the construction industry.
Dana Glacier Vandervell, the Kilmarnock based bearing materials manufacturer won the large company category and Enviroglass, a glass recycling business from Shetland, was winner in the small company category.
Winning the VIBES Award follows similar success for ScotAsh last year - the company won the Environment Award in the Utility Week Utility Industry Achievement Award in December 2003.
ScotAsh's Managing Director, Peter Quinn said: "We are delighted to have brought the VIBES Award for the medium category back to Kincardine-on-Forth.
"During the last few years we have tried to demonstrate that good environmental practice makes good business sense and we are very pleased that this has been recognised through the VIBES Award."
Commenting on the winners, Sir Ken Collins chairman of SEPA said: "All three of the companies we are honouring are dedicated to environmental best practice.
"Not only have these businesses demonstrated a commitment to daily improving their working practices to reduce their impact on the environment but they have also made real bottom line savings, which is what VIBES is all about."
