ScotAsh Team Meet Her Majesty the Queen

Following the presentation of a Queen's Award in the Innovation category earlier this summer, three members of the company travelled to London last month to attend a special reception at Buckingham Palace.

Managing Director Peter Quinn, Chairman Nigel Cooke and Finance & Administration Manager Mike Southworth represented the company at a dazzling reception hosted by Her Majesty The Queen to honour this year's award winners.

After marvelling at the paintings in the three interconnecting staterooms where the reception was held, the approach of an equerry signalled that the ScotAsh three were to be among the first to meet The Queen.

MD Peter Quinn takes up the story. He said: "I can only describe the evening reception as an unforgettable experience.

"Although the Queen tries to speak to as many guests as she can, it would be impossible to meet everyone. We were extremely fortunate in that we happened to be standing opposite the door through which she entered.

Peter added: "Her Majesty spoke to us for about five minutes and appeared to be genuinely interested in what we told her about our business."

The ScotAsh team also met the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duke of Kent for an informal chat.

The importance placed on recognising the UK's top businesses was evident by the number of royals in attendance.

As well as the Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and the Duke of Kent, the Princess Royal and the Duke and Countess of Wessex were there, as was Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Peter concluded: "We felt very privileged to have the success of our business recognised in this way.

"The whole event was fabulous, we all enjoyed it immensely - and yes, we remembered to bow when we were introduced to The Queen!"
