A Great Day for Staff and Guests
The Lord-Lieutenant of Fife, Mrs Margaret Dean, visited ScotAsh on 17th June, to hand over a crystal bowl and a scroll signed by Her Majesty The Queen and Prime Minister Tony Blair.
ScotAsh was one of just two Scottish companies to win a Queen's Award in the Innovation category this year.
Handing over the commemorative items in front of the plant's 24 employees and assembled guests, the Lord-Lieutenant said: "ScotAsh ticks all the boxes. Not only does the company recycle a byproduct into quality construction products, it is environmentally friendly - and it makes money and supports jobs too."
On learning of all the places ScotAsh products had been used - from harbours across the UK and North Sea oil platforms, to oil wells in Latin America, historic buildings and windfarms, Mrs Dean said: "I find it very heartening to know there's a little bit of Fife in all of these places."
Charles Berry, Executive Director UK, said: "The joint venture between ScottishPower and Lafarge has been an outstanding success. It shows what can be done when companies with similar objectives unite to achieve a common purpose."
Charles Law, Lafarge Cement UK's Marketing Director said: "ScotAsh is a benchmark of excellence. The ScotAsh model is now being considered by Lafarge for replication elsewhere in the world."
To mark the event on 17th June, Andy Gibb from the ScottishPower Pipe Band was in attendance to pipe guests and employees into a marquee for the presentation.
A special cake was commissioned for the celebration, bearing The Queen's Award emblem in ScotAsh blue.
A separate event was held for customers on 30th June.
