MP praises ScotAsh's support for local rail construction project

ScotAsh hit another milestone this summer as the company despatched the 20,000th tonne of grout it has supplied for the new Stirling-Alloa-Kincardine rail link.

Dunfermline and West Fife MP Willie Rennie was on hand to oversee the latest consignment to leave the plant.

He said: "It is good to see a local company supplying local projects - it supports the local economy and benefits the environment by cutting down on transport."

He added: "I am impressed with the innovation shown by ScotAsh in processing a byproduct into high quality construction materials.

"These products save natural aggregates, avoid sending ash to landfill and save significant quantities of carbon dioxide.

"We must spread the message about the value of these locally manufactured products."

The original Kincardine to Stirling rail link was closed in 1968. A £57.6 million project is underway to remove existing track, grout old mine workings and relay 21 km of new line.

Supplies, including 33,000 sleepers, 2,500 60-foot lengths of rail and 70,000 tonnes of ballast have been delivered to a storage site at the former Kincardine Power Station. The new route is expected to open in summer 2007.
