RoSPA Gold Award for ScotAsh
ScotAsh, the green construction products company based at Longannet Power Station, Kincardine-on-Forth has won a prestigious occupational health and safety award.
The company, a joint venture between Lafarge Cement and ScottishPower, won a Gold Award in the RoSPA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents) Occupational Health & Safety Awards 2007.
Rose Hynd, ScotAsh's Quality, Health, Safety and Environment Manager said: "ScotAsh are proud to be the winners of this prestigious Gold Award, especially as this is the first time we have entered the awards.
"The RoSPA Achievement Awards include Merit, Bronze, Silver and Gold levels, so we're delighted that RoSPA have recognised our efforts with a Gold Award first time round."
ScotAsh Managing Director Peter Quinn added: "This award recognises the commitment of everyone on site, employees and contractors, to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety. Safety is - and will continue to be - our top priority."
David Rawlins, RoSPA Awards Manager, said: "ScotAsh have demonstrated how seriously they take health and safety management and are a fine example to many other companies. We would like to see more organisations following their lead."
The RoSPA Awards are not only about reducing the number of accidents and ill health at work. Gold Award winners must demonstrate that they have excellent health and safety management systems in place, ranging from how they assess and manage risks to employee training.
ScotAsh will be presented with their RoSPA Gold Award at the RoSPA Scotland Congress, to be held in Glasgow during September.
