Staff's bright ideas help improve our processes

Peter Quinn, Ron Hunter, Karen Seivwright, Ian Chisholm, Ross McNicol, Nigel Cooke & Charles LawThe winners of this year's Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Improvement Scheme have been announced.

This year's health and safety prize was won by Ross McNicol for his suggestion to add a reminder, on the back of job sheets, to carry out a STOP risk assessment before starting work.

Ross has been instrumental in implementing STOP risk assessments at ScotAsh.

The environmental prize went to Jim Donnelly (now in a new post at Aberthaw) for developing and implementing a solution to a problem with the tanker load out filter that will prevent fugitive dust emissions, while reducing maintenance and stock holding.

This year's quality prize went to Sales Administrator Karen Seivwright who identified a staggering 27 potential improvements in the customer, haulage and product areas and, in 68% of cases, implemented these herself. Well done to all the winners, who each received £100 in vouchers.
