ScotAsh Celebrates It's Second Queen's Award
ScotAsh is to be honoured with a Queen's Award for Enterprise 2008 in the Sustainable Development category - chalking up the exceptional achievement of receiving two Queen's Awards within three years.
Honour is tribute to our people and strategy
The company received a Queen's Award in the Innovation category in 2005 for processing power station ash into high quality construction projects.
This year's Award, conferred by Her Majesty the Queen on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, recognises ScotAsh's continuous achievement over the last five years in producing sustainable construction products, including blended cements, grouts and waste stabilisation materials, from power station ash.
The honour states: "The company is commended for the contribution it has made to sustainability through its innovative research and development, pioneering for its time, which has resulted in the capacity to recycle previously recyclable material.
"The company has also striven to ensure high-end use for such material, enhancing the carbon savings which can accrue.
"This is a company that has demonstrated commendable leadership through its innovation, development of new markets, and strong stewardship, providing a strong benchmark for progressing the sustainable development agenda."
ScotAsh Managing Director Peter Quinn said "Receiving a Queen's Award is a great honour.
"To receive two Awards in different categories in such a short timescale is a rare distinction that underlines the merits of our strategy and our people. We are delighted and very proud."
The Queen's Award, announced on 21st April, Her Majesty's Birthday, are the UK's most prestigious awards for business performance - they recognise and reward outstanding achievement by UK companies.
Last year ScotAsh smashed all previous sales records, selling 1.1 million tonnes of products, including cements, grouts, and stabilisation materials.
During the last five years ScotAsh has sold more than 3.5 million tonnes of ash-based produced, saving more than 3.5 million tonnes of primary aggregates, 180,000 tonnes of CO2, and diverting more than three million tonnes of ash from landfill.
The Queen's Awards will be formally conferred on the business by the Lord Lieutenant of Fife, as the Queen's representative, at a ceremony this summer.
Second RoSPA Gold too!
The company has achieved a second Gold Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents in recognition of its outstanding health and safety performance.
ScotAsh achieved five years without a Lost Time Accident in November.
