Recognition of our endeavour

Queen's Award Bowl and ScrollThe Lord-Lieutenant of Fife, Mrs Margaret Dean, recalled her last visit to ScotAsh in 2005, when she presented the company with a Queen's Award in the Innovation category.

"Back then I said you were a company that ticked all the boxes, in your striving towards a greener world," she said.

"In an impossibly short time you have found even more boxes to tick in gaining another award, this time for sustainable development."

The Lord-Lieutenant said that she found it "very reassuring and uplifting" that a company with ScotAsh's green credentials could also be hugely successful in the marketplace.

"This is due to the other element - quite frankly you feel it as soon as you come in - the strong and caring team spirit engendered by you all working towards such a worthwhile goal." ScotAsh's caring, the Lord-Lieutenant added, also extended to the community, through the company's support for charitable and community projects.

"It has been said that ScotAsh would make an excellent case study with regards to its inspirational leadership and workforce commitment. In presenting you with this Queen's Award for Sustainable Development, I offer you on behalf of us all, hearty congratulations." ScotAsh MD Peter Quinn said: "On behalf of the staff here at ScotAsh, I am very proud indeed to accept our second Queen's Award. Winning the Award is a great honour.

"I would like to thank all of my team for the efforts they make - not only in doing a good job but also in constantly exploring how we can make further improvements. This Award recognises their continuous endeavour."

ScotAsh received a magnificent crystal bowl (above left) and a scroll signed by Her Majesty the Queen and Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
