Climbing the career ladder: ScotAsh Production Manager Mark Stephen (left) with Walter Cairns

Walter Cairns is off to Falkirk College in August as he embarks on his four-year ScotAsh apprenticeship as an electrical/instrument craftsman.

He will attend college for a year to complete his basic training as part of the SEMTA apprenticeship programme, after which he will continue his training at ScotAsh, with day release to Falkirk College for a further three years.

At the end of Walter's training he will have gained an HNC in Measurement and Control, an SVQ to Level 3 and a position within the maintenance department as a fully qualified Process Control / Electrical engineering craftsperson.

Production Manager Mark Stephen said: "The apprenticeship is part of our Investors in People programme to ensure we have suitably qualified people to fill future vacancies in our Maintenance Department."

We wish Walter all the best with his studies.
