Kicked off in May by Eddie Kane, the cycling craze has snowballed - despite the inclement weather - with the intrepid seven covering up to 115 miles a day between them.

Eddie is joined on part of his journey from Alloa by Louis Caine from Clackmannan, while Ross MacNicol and Murray Mather cycle from Falkirk and Keith Dean and Duncan Innes pedal the 14 miles or so from Dunfermline.

Production Manager Mark Stephen is also an occasional participant, cycling to and from his home in Bonnybridge 141/2 miles away.

Eddie said: "Depending on our shifts we usually have a cycling buddy, which is great - especially after back shift, which finishes at 11pm, and we go home in the dark."

He added: "The benefits have been tremendous.

"We are all getting exceptionally fit.

"I've lost a lot of inches, dropped one-and-a-half stone and my asthma has improved - and of course we're saving money on fuel and cutting carbon."

The group have organised two social cycling events and plan a charity fund-raiser for 2009.

Meanwhile, ScotAsh MD Peter Quinn has switched to a greener car in a bid to cut his carbon footprint.

Peter swapped his Saab for a new Toyota Prius, a hightech enviro-friendly hybrid that has among the best fuel efficiency and lowest emissions in its class.
