Part 2 PFA
ScotAsh's Part 2 PFA is selected from the eletrostatic precipitators at Longannet Power Station using real time carbon analysers, which measure Loss On Ignition (LOI). Part 2 PFA is classed as material with an LOI of less than 12%, although a range of LOIs can be selected.
Quality
Part 2 PFA meets the requirements of BS 3892: Part 2 (Latest Revision) and is therefore considered to be a Type 1 addition - it is not considered part of the cementitious content of the concrete.
Uses and Benefits
Part 2 PFA can be used as a filler or aggregate in the manufacture of various concrete products, such as concrete blocks and pre-cast products. Unlike EN 450 Fly Ash, it is classified as a Type 1 addition, which is virtually inert. It cannot therefore be counted towards the cementitious content of the concrete, although it offers several advantages:
- Increased durability
- Improved dimensional stability
- Lower unit cost
- Reduced effluorescence
